There are times however when babies are born before this time. They are said to be premature. In prematurity, they are less able to survive outside the womb especially if they arrive long before average time of 40 weeks.

Such children and others who may be mature but are very ill and require care are nursed in the special baby care unit. Here, special equipment such as baby incubators, baby resuscitaire, CPAP, defibrillator, airway sunction machine, oxygen source, phototherapy machine, etc are available.

These babies are nursed under such special conditions as to offer them a better chance to life.
