In haemodialysis your blood flows out of your body, round a dialysis machine and through a dialyser. The dialyser cleans your blood of waste products and then it is returned to your body. The haemodialysis process replaces the cleaning function normally carried out by healthy kidneys. It usually has to be done three times a week on alternate days.

Is there any surgery involved?

You will need a small operation to create a fistula or to insert a dialysis line. A fistula is where an artery is joined to a vein so that the vein enlarges. This enables needles to be inserted into your bloodstream for haemodialysis.

If you need dialysis before your fistula is ready, you will need a dialysis line. This is a small plastic tube put into a large vein in your neck.

How does haemodialysis work?
The tubes on the dialysis machine will be attached to your fistula or dialysis line. The tubes will be used to take blood from your body. Your blood is circulated around the dialysis machine via the pump. It then goes through the dialyser where it is cleaned. The tubes then carry the cleaned blood back into your body. Only a small amount of your blood is out of your body at any one time.

How long does it take?
It takes about 30 minutes to connect you to the dialysis machine and about 30 minutes to disconnect you at the end. You will usually dialyse for about four hours, three times a week on alternate days. Dialysis will be prescribed by your doctor according to your needs.

What can I eat and drink if I choose haemodialysis?
There is some dietary and fluid advice to follow to stop too many toxins and excess fluid from building up in your blood. The staff will advise you when you start treatment.

For a patient to be alive, to walk or be carried into the hospital and you respond more than 60 seconds after, you are inefficient, you are indolent, you are not emergency compliant and therefore you don’t worth the onion. https://youtu.be/01ialPxP0ho

INTRODUCTION:

Peptic ulcer disease has become a very common condition in our environment, especially in this time of extreme mental, physical and emotional stress in everything around us. also, a time when family, domestic and in particular job demands keeps us almost constantly on the move. A time too, when life style challenges are increasingly leaving people with minimal choices in terms of foods, drinks, societal values and sanity, peptic ulcer remains a threat to good health and healthy leaving.

WHAT IS PEPTIC ULCER DISEASE?

It is a disease condition involving the inflammation and or erosion of the mucous membrane (inner walls) of the stomach and or the immediate parts of its associated organs: the oesophagus and the duodenum. this erosion is usually associated with high acidity in the affected parts.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?

Because of the consistently common complaints over the years across the world, the expression “HEART BURN” found itself into the medical lexicon. heart burn is the burning sensation experienced in the upper abdomen. indeed, the cardinal symptom is about pain in the abdomen. Other symptoms include: Loss of appetite, excessive stomach gas, easy fullness with flatulence, nausea and sometimes vomiting.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES?

Often, the causes may never be known. However, ulcer as it is commonly called can run in the family. Infrequent, irregular meals including starvation (fasting) are recognized causes. Some medicines especially strong pain killers like asprin, feldene and ibrufen can trigger it also. others include alcohol, cigarette, excessive caffeine, some contraceptives, hormonal therapies and increasingly, stress.

CAN ULCER BE PREVENTED?

If the cause is not hereditary, yes, especially if you understand your system and avoid those known causes. Eat regularly, Avoid alcohol, kola-nuts, spices and smoking. Remain tranquil always. Tame your stress.

CAN ULCER BE CURED?

Yes. Most ulcers diagnosed early and treated early can be cured. Treatment will always include adjustment in some personal habits as already seen. Some ulcers are recalcitrant and very difficult to treat, so run very chronic courses.

ARE ULCERS ALWAYS A SIMPLE CONDITION?

No. Ulcers can be very mild and respond to medications. Sometimes they can be very severe, complicated, difficult to treat and occasionally leading to perforation. this can cause death except an urgent surgery is done.

CONCLUSION:

Report every unexplained abdominal discomfort to your doctor. Avoid medications not prescribed by the doctor. Fret less, quarrel less, allow minimal anger, work as well as rest, observe your leave, ensure to eat regularly and eat right by discovering what is right for you.

School is many things—a place where kids learn and grow cognitively, develop social skills, and become independent individuals. It can also, alas, be a place where they pick up germs and illnesses and bring them home.

At school, children spend a lot of time in classrooms where they can easily transfer infections to one another. But by teaching kids some important healthy habits, parents can help make school and health a priority during the school year. Here are some great tips on how to keep your kids healthy.

1. Teach Your Child About Proper Hand Washing

Hand washing is one of the most important ways we can prevent the spread of illness in the classroom and elsewhere. By teaching your child how to wash her hands properly—and to especially wash after blowing her nose, using the bathroom and before eating—you can help her reduce the risk of getting sick, and keep her from infecting others if she catches an infection or illness.

2. Boost Your Family’s Immune System Health
Keeping your child’s immune system strong is an important way to stay healthy and ward off illness during the school year. Getting enough sleep, maintaining a healthy diet, managing stress, exercising, making time to laugh, and emphasizing hand washing can help reduce your child’s risk of getting colds, flu, and other infections.
3. Set Good Sleep Habits
Making sure your child gets enough sleep is a crucial part of keeping her healthy. Sleep is important not only for a child’s physical and emotional health but it can play an important role in how well she does in school, too.
4. Calm worries and anxiety

Separation anxiety, social anxiety, fear of not fitting in or feeling the pressure to stay on top of grades and activities is a growing concern for children. Make sure your kids are aware of who their teacher is, their class schedule and any other changes they might encounter. Planning a tour of the school and classroom or a meet-and-greet with the teacher is a good way to help your kids acclimate before the first day.

5. Turn your child’s screen time into an opportunity for learning.

You know too much screen time is not a good thing for your child. But what about when that screen time is used to build skills in math, science and reading? There are a wide variety of educational apps that can keep your child entertained while learning at the same time. Download educational and information apps.

Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria has warned against indiscriminate or misuse of Paracetamol, saying such practice damages the liver and kidney.

Mr Jelili Kilani, PSN Chairman, FCT Chapter, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja emphasised that Paracetamol, an analgesic, should not be misused.

Kilani defined drug misuse as the use of drug for purposes for which it was not intended or using a drug in excessive quantities.

He further described drug abuse as an ill-wind which its effect might not manifest immediately but later in life.

The chairman, however, decried the usual practice of taking about three or more tablet of Paracetamol at once to fast track healing processes.

“By engaging in such practice, you are damaging your internal organs like the liver and kidney, which if care is not taken, such damages cannot be remedy.’’

Kilani, therefore, urged the general public to desist from misuse of Paracetamol in order to avert inflicting injury to their system.

“Misuse of drug is when somebody is tired and decides to take three or more tablet of Paracetamol simply because he wanted a quicker or higher effect.

“As good as Paracetamol is, if not properly taken, it damages the liver and kidney; the only drug that is harmless to the body is water.

“I advise the public to desist from self medication.

“If anyone is experiencing feverish condition or body pains after taking Paracetamol once and the symptoms persist, they should consult medical doctors rather than taking the drug continuously,” he said.
